Manchester United are allegedly involved in discussions to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves during the summer transfer window.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in securing a summer deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.

At the end of last season, it appeared that Neves would be on his way out of Molineux having acknowledged that he was open to a new challenge.

However, when suitable bids failed to arrive for the Portugal international, he remained at a club where he has become a legendary figure in his near six-year stay.

Neves is currently fully focused on trying to ensure that Wolves retain their Premier League status, the West Midlands outfit just three points ahead of the relegation zone ahead of a potentially-pivotal encounter at Nottingham Forest on April 1.

Nevertheless, speculation persists regarding the 26-year-old's long-term future with just over 15 months remaining on his contract.

If Wolves stay in England's top flight and concrete offers are in short supply, there is a scenario where Neves stays and possibly signs a one-year extension.

That said, according to Sport, United are already in talks to sign Neves ahead of 2023-24.

The report claims that Neves and his representatives are negotiating a switch to Old Trafford at a time when Barcelona are said to have shelved their interest.

Although there was a willingness of the Catalan giants to sign Neves, it has been reported on more than one occasion that head coach Xavi does not regard him as an important addition.

Instead, it is alleged that signing for United is far more likely, the Red Devils expected to be in the market for a new central midfielder in the summer.

While Casemiro, Fred and Christian Eriksen are expected to remain in Erik ten Hag's squad, Scott McTominay is in line to be sold and Marcel Sabitzer may return to parent club Bayern Munich.

Liverpool and Chelsea are also stated to be admirers, although it is unclear whether the latter will reignite their interest given the options in their squad.

Neves has contributed 29 goals and 12 assists during his 245 appearances for Wolves, with 28 of those goal contributions coming in the Premier League.
