Watford confirm that they have appointed Chris Wilder as their new head coach after parting company with Slaven Bilic.

Watford have announced that they have appointed Chris Wilder as their new head coach.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Hornets revealed that they had parted company with Slaven Bilic after just 26 matches, a consequence of a poor run of form in the Championship.

Although the Croatian delivered 37 points from 25 league fixtures, Watford remain in ninth position in the Championship table and six points adrift of the playoffs.

With Bilic's predecessor Rob Edwards having lasted just 11 matches, the club's hierarchy have made the decision to bring in their third boss since last summer.

The Hertfordshire outfit have revealed that Wilder has moved to Vicarage Road on a contract until the end of the season.

While the 55-year-old has generally enjoyed an impressive managerial career, he lasted less than a year in his most recent position at Middlesbrough.

Despite almost salvaging a playoff spot for Boro during 2021-22, the North-East outfit spent the opening two months of this campaign in and around the relegation zone before his exit on October 3.

Nevertheless, Watford will hope that Wilder can have the same impact that he had at Sheffield United, taking the Blades from League One to the top half of the Premier League standings in 2019-20.

Wilder's first game in charge will be a short trip to face Queens Park Rangers on March 11.
