Preview: RB Leipzig vs. Wolfsburg - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's DFB-Pokal clash between RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

It is an all-Bundesliga affair at the Red Bull Arena as RB Leipzig welcome Wolfsburg on Wednesday for their quarter-final meeting in this year's DFB-Pokal.

Both teams were victorious in the league last time out, and they will come into the game with a spring in their respective steps.

RB Leipzig picked up their fifth league win on the bounce courtesy of a 3-2 home triumph over Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday.

Julian Nagelsmann's men were two goals down inside the opening 20 minutes as strikes from Jonas Hofmann and Marcus Thuram put the visitors in the driving seat.

Christopher Nkunku halved the deficit just before the hour mark, before Yussuf Poulsen restored parity as the game entered into its final quarter.

Alexander Sorloth completed the comeback in the third minute of additional time with his second league goal of the season.

Die Roten Bullen are now two points behind Bayern Munich, and they are showing no sign of letting the league leaders off the hook.

Wolfsburg have been one of the surprise packages of this season as they currently occupy third place in the Bundesliga table following a 2-0 win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Oliver Glasner's men have the longest active unbeaten streak in the division having not lost any of their last nine matches since a 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund to kick off the year.

Sandwiched in between those nine games was a 1-0 win over Schalke 04 in the last 16 of the German Cup which set up Wednesday's trip to Leipzig.

Die Wolfe have not won any of the last seven meetings between the sides in all competitions but given their current form, that should not bother them too much.

Team News

Konrad Laimer and Dominik Szoboszlai are both expected not to play any part in the match as they remain sidelined with minor injuries.

Alexander Sorloth supplied a goal and an assist in his second-half appearance last time out, and he could be rewarded with a start in this one.

Marin Pongracic received his marching orders in Wolfsburg's win against Hertha Berlin, so he is suspended for this fixture.

John Brooks would have been the ideal replacement for the Croatian, but his involvement is still uncertain after he missed the aforementioned game with a thigh problem.

The visitors may also be reluctant to field Josip Brekalo, who is just finalising his recovery from a knee injury which kept him out of his side's last league outing.

RB Leipzig possible starting lineup:
Gulacsi; Mukiele, Upamecano, Orban, Halstenberg; Sabitzer, Adams; Kluivert, Olmo, Nkunku; Poulsen

Wolfsburg possible starting lineup:
Casteels; Mbabu, Lacroix, Bruma, Otavio; Schlager, Arnold; Baku, Gerhardt, Steffen; Weghorst

We say: RB Leipzig 2-1 Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg have not conceded a goal in their last eight games, but we expect that run to come to an end here. We are also backing the home side to come out on top in what should be a tight encounter.
