Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly eyeing up Steven Gerrard as a potential replacement for current head coach Christophe Galtier.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly eyeing up Steven Gerrard as a potential replacement for current head coach Christophe Galtier.

Galtier was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino's successor in July last year after leaving his role in charge of fellow Ligue 1 side Nice.

However, the 56-year-old's position in the dugout is understood to have come under threat in recent weeks following a poor run of form, with the Parisian giants losing three of their last four matches in all competitions.

Within a six-day period, PSG were eliminated by Marseille in the Coupe de France and lost against Monaco in Ligue 1 before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie last week.

PSG won the French Super Cup back in August, but the prospect of failing to win any more silverware this season cannot be ruled out, with their lead at the Ligue 1 summit having recently been reduced to just five points with 14 games still remaining.

Should PSG decide to part ways with Galtier heading into the final third of the campaign, the Scottish Daily Express claims that former Rangers and Aston Villa boss Gerrard has been identified as a potential replacement.

The report adds that Gerrard's name has been discussed by PSG's hierarchy, who have become 'increasingly frustrated' with Galtier and his side's recent performances.

Following a hugely-successful playing career with Liverpool, Gerrard began life as a manager with Rangers, where he ended the club's 10-year wait for a Scottish Premiership title in 2020-21.

The 42-year-old was also named PFA Scotland Manager of the Year in the same season and he went on to spend three-and-a-half years at Ibrox before taking the reins at Aston Villa in November 2021.

However, Gerrard's first taste of management in the Premier League lasted for just 11 months after he was sacked in October last year, leaving Villa Park with a record of 13 wins, eight draws and 19 defeats in 40 matches across all competitions.

For the last four months, Gerrard has been linked with a number of jobs at both club and international level, including the likes of Leeds United, Southampton and Poland, but the former England midfielder revealed last month that he is keen to return to management in the Premier League.

However, the prospect of coaching the likes of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar in Paris could appeal to Gerrard, especially if he is backed by the club's owners to bolster the squad with some of his desired targets.

Gerrard is not the only named believed to be on PSG's managerial radar, as Roma boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly been contacted by director Luis Campos about the possibility of replacing Galtier at the Parc des Princes.

Meanwhile, PSG are also said to be considering a reunion with Thomas Tuchel, just over two years after leaving the Parisian club, although the German is believed to be 'waiting' for either the Barcelona or Real Madrid managerial vacancy to become available.

Galtier will be looking to turn PSG's fortunes around and save his job when they travel to Marseille for a top-of-the-table clash in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
