Result: Brazil squeeze past Chile

Goals from Robinho and Hulk are enough for Brazil despite Eduardo Vargas's strike at the Rogers Center in Toronto this morning.

Brazil have edged out Chile 2-1 at the Rogers Center in Toronto this morning.

Eduardo Vargas cancelled out Hulk's early opener, before Robinho scored the winner for the World Cup hosts late on.

Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk opened the scoring for the Selecao after 14 minutes when Oscar played him through and he finished with a powerful effort.

Both sides had chances after the restart when Vargas had an effort on 49 minutes, before Luiz Felipe Scolari's side nearly doubled their lead a minute later when Maxwell's cross was drilled straight across goal with Paulinho and Neymar unable to reach it.

Chile found themselves back in the game on 70 minutes when Vargas controlled a long ball before wrapping a right-footed finish into the net from around 25 yards.

However, Scolari's side had their second nine minutes later when Neymar found Maicon wide right before the former Manchester City full-back crossed for Robinho to nod home for his 27th international goal.

Neymar missed a glorious chance minutes later after a slick break put him through, but the Barcelona forward stumbled when clean through and his poked effort was saved by Claudio Bravo in the Chile goal.

Robinho nearly made it three with the last kick of the game when he flicked it over a defender and drilled a left foot shot just wide after he was released over the top by Willian.

The win was Brazil's 13th in 16 games.
