Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp claims that Mohamed Salah's contract renewal is not as quick a process as "buying a smartphone".

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Mohamed Salah's contract renewal is not something that can be sorted out "overnight".

The Egypt international only has 18 months left to run on his current deal at Anfield and is yet to pen an extension, despite a lengthy period of negotiations.

Klopp has always remained optimistic about the club's chances of keeping Salah on the books, and the Reds boss has claimed that agreeing fresh terms is not as quick a decision as "buying a smartphone".

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Klopp said: "I don't know what I can say on top of what I said already. What is the problem? I wouldn't say there's a problem, to be honest, these are conversations.

"If two big companies try to come together out there usually in normal life, in business, that's not done overnight. A big contract, it's not like buying a smartphone (that) you just sign one thing and it's done

"There are a lot of things to consider – some on the club's side, some from the player's side and a lot from the agent's side. That's the thing, nothing else."

Salah has affirmed that he shares the club's desire to extend his stay on Merseyside and is not making "crazy" demands to the powers-that-be over a new contract.

The 29-year-old has 23 goals and nine assists from 26 appearances to his name in all competitions this season but drew a blank in Egypt's opening Africa Cup of Nations defeat to Nigeria on Tuesday.
