Mauricio Pochettino will reportedly explore the possibility of signing Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane if he is appointed as Chelsea's new head coach.

Mauricio Pochettino would reportedly be interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane if he becomes the new head coach of Chelsea.

Over the past week, it has been widely claimed that Pochettino is close to being appointed as the Blues' next boss at the end of the season.

The Argentine, a former manager of Spurs, is said to have expressed a desire to build a team around homegrown talent, and an English core is expected to remain at Stamford Bridge.

Faced with no European football, a recent loss of £121m and having spent in excess of £600m across two transfer windows, the Chelsea hierarchy will be forced to make extreme cutbacks in the summer.

A wide array of sales are expected to be made to a squad which currently possesses over 30 players, while Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Levi Colwill is likely to feature in any squad of Pochettino's.

Nevertheless, the reported next incumbent of the Stamford Bridge dugout will also be able to make his own signings, on top of RB Leipzig's Christopher Nkunku allegedly already being signed.

According to the Daily Mail, Pochettino is expected to ask Chelsea to explore the possibility of signing Kane.

Pochettino is said to be a huge admirer of Spurs' record goalscorer, who he helped develop into one of the world's best strikers during his time in North London.

Kane is at a stage of his career where he is contemplating his next move with just over 14 months left on his contract and Champions League football for 2023-24 increasingly unlikely.

While that is not available at Chelsea next season, Kane must decide whether he wishes to sign fresh terms with his current club when they have no permanent head coach and appear on a downward trajectory.

Manchester United are also believed to be readying an approach for Kane as they bid to resolve their own issues down the middle of their attack.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is allegedly against selling Kane to either club, regardless of the size of any bid or the risk of losing Kane on a free transfer in 2024.

That said, missing out on Champions League football may force Levy's hand unless the likes of Bayern Munich are willing to meet Kane's price tag, said to be in the region of £100m.
