Manchester United staff are split when it comes to the future of Mason Greenwood, according to a report.

Manchester United staff are reportedly split when it comes to the future of Mason Greenwood.

The 21-year-old has had all criminal charges facing him dropped, and the Red Devils are now determining their next step when it comes to a potential future for the forward at Old Trafford.

Greater Manchester Police revealed on Thursday that all charges against Greenwood had been dropped.

Last January, the forward was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault following accusations from a woman, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a trial date set for November 2023.

"We have a duty to keep cases under continuous review. In this case a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. In these circumstances, we are under a duty to stop the case," said a spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service.

"We have explained our decision to all parties. We would always encourage any potential victims to come forward and report to police and we will prosecute wherever our legal test is met."

Man United have since released a statement of their own: "Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.

"The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete."

However, according to The Guardian, there is a split among the Man United staff when it comes to the forward potentially resuming his career at the club.

The report claims that some 'feel a duty of care' towards Greenwood, who has not been found guilty of any crime, but others would be 'deeply unhappy' to see him represent the club again.

Man United have not put a timeframe on a decision, and it is understood that the club will weigh up a number of factors before determining the best course of action.

Should Greenwood leave, it is believed that the Englishman would be open to continuing his career in China.
