Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Real Madrid

Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's injury and suspension news ahead of Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg with Real Madrid.

Needing to put the reigning Champions League holders to the sword by three goals at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea host Real Madrid in the second leg of their quarter-final on Tuesday night.

Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio were on target for Los Blancos in a 2-0 Bernabeu victory last week, extending Frank Lampard's miserable start to life back in the dugout.

The Blues' losing streak under their legendary midfielder was stretched to three games on Saturday, as Brighton & Hove Albion came from behind to record a 2-1 Premier League win in West London.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest with Carlo Ancelotti's side, who ran out 2-0 winners over Cadiz in Saturday's La Liga showdown.

Kai Havertz

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: April 18 (vs. Real Madrid)

Kai Havertz suffered a knock to the knee during the first leg and subsequently missed Saturday's defeat to Brighton, although Lampard is still confident that the German will be fit to lead the line on Wednesday.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: April 18 (vs. Real Madrid)

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was also absent from the weekend's loss due to a back concern of unspecified severity, and it remains to be seen if he will be able to force his way back in for the visit of Real Madrid, but he was able to train on Monday.

Carney Chukwuemeka

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: April 18 (vs. Real Madrid)

Up-and-coming midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is also touch-and-go for the second leg due to a knock, but the 19-year-old would have had little chance of starting this one anyway.

Armando Broja

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Armando Broja sustained a severe knee injury during a winter friendly against Aston Villa, and the Albanian striker will not play again this season as he continues his recovery.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Status: Out
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: May 2 (vs. Arsenal)

Kalidou Koulibaly was brought off with a hamstring concern after 55 minutes at the Bernabeu, and Lampard has confirmed that the centre-back's rehabilitation will take "a matter of weeks", thus ruling him out of the second leg.

CHELSEA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Ben Chilwell

Return date: April 26 (vs. Brentford)

Ben Chilwell was given a straight red card in the first leg for a last-man foul on Rodrygo, and Chelsea will have to cope without the suspended left-back this week.
