Result: Matej Vydra winner sinks Brentford

Watford hold on to beat Brentford 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

Billy McKinlay got his reign as the new manager of Watford off to the perfect start with a 2-1 win over Brentford this evening.

Moses Odubajo went close for the visitors early on, before Lloyd Dyer's cross was headed against the bar by Odion Ighalo halfway through the first half.

Matej Vydra's throug- ball sent Ighalo in on goal with just three minutes of the half remaining, but the striker was brought down for a penalty.

Ighalo's effort from the spot was saved by David Button, but the striker reacted quickest to turn home the rebound and give Watford a half-time lead.

Jonathan Douglas restored parity just before the hour mark when he rounded off a neat Brentford team move with a powerful finish from the edge of the box.

Vydra then struck with a 25-yard volley to put McKinlay's side 2-1 ahead, who saw Daniel Pudil sent off for a second bookable offence late on.

Heurelho Gomes then secured the win for Watford with a reflex save from a close-range header deep into added on time.
