England must play their next UEFA game behind closed doors as the FA are hit with sanctions following the crowd trouble at the Euro 2020 final.

England will be forced to play behind closed doors during their next UEFA fixture following the ugly scenes of crowd trouble before the Euro 2020 final.

Prior to Italy's penalty-shootout win over the Three Lions, fans without tickets breached security and managed to force their way into the stadium, with various videos of the incidents going viral on social media.

The crowd trouble sparked criticism over the lack of policing outside Wembley for the final, with Harry Maguire's father injured in the scuffles, and the FA have now been fined £84,560 which relates to "the invasion of the field of play, for throwing of objects and for the disturbances during the national anthems".

A statement by the FA read: "Although we are disappointed with the verdict, we acknowledge the outcome. We condemn the terrible behaviour of the individuals who caused the disgraceful scenes in and around Wembley Stadium at the Euro 2020 final, and we deeply regret that some of them were able to enter the stadium.

"We are determined that this can never be repeated, so we have commissioned an independent review, led by Baroness Casey, to report on the circumstances involved.

"We continue to work with the relevant authorities in support of their efforts to take action against those responsible and hold them to account."

England will play behind closed doors during their next UEFA Nations League game in 2022, while a second game in front of empty stands has been suspended for two years.
