Marco Hoger signs new Schalke 04 deal

Injured midfielder Marco Hoger signs a 12-month contract extension with Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.

Schalke 04 have confirmed that Marco Hoger has signed a new deal with the club.

The 26-year-old, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury earlier this season, was previously contracted at the Veltins-Arena until the summer of 2016.

However, under his fresh terms, the midfielder has tied himself to Schalke for a further 12 months.

"[The new contract] gives me strength and motivation during the recovery process. I will now work hard so I can get back into the team as quickly as possible," he told the club's official website.

Sporting director Horst Heldt added: "Shortly after Marco got injured, we decided to get him signed on for longer. In the last few years, Hoger has given everything for Schalke, so we wanted to give something back.

"We will now give him the time he needs to recover. After that he can work his way back into the team."

Hoger joined Schalke from Alemannia Aachen in 2011 and he has gone on to make 87 Bundesliga appearances, from which he has scored seven goals.
