Preview: St Mirren vs. Hibernian - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between St Mirren and Hibernian, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two teams undergoing poor form at the moment will collide on Saturday as St Mirren attempt to end their eight-match run without a victory when they host Hibernian.

However, the Hibees have also only won once out of their previous nine league games which led to Jack Ross being fired this week.

St Mirren were comfortably defeated at the weekend when they faced Aberdeen, losing 4-1 in a match that extended their run of games without a victory to eight games.

The poor form as of late has led to them dropping down the SPL table, with the Buddies sitting in eighth place, and they sit above the relegation zone by just three points.

This places extra pressure on their fixture this Saturday as a defeat could drag them down to the bottom two spots, which they will hope to avoid.

However, with their difficult run at the moment the squad will need to step up and make an improvement to change their fortunes.

The Buddies have only scored twice in their last six matches, which has been a big source of problems for the team, which is an area for them to focus on.

Hibernian will also want to get their own season back on track as well, with the club having only won once in the league across their previous nine matches.

That victory took place against St Johnstone, who had 10 men during the match, but they did manage to secure a place in the Scottish League Cup final as well.

However, this difficult period did lead to Ross losing his job this week, meaning the Hibees will not have a permanent manager in the dugout this weekend, which will no doubt have an impact on things.

Hibernian will be hoping to showcase their strength and quality, regardless of their managerial situation, with a potential victory showcasing their quality.

However, the last time they faced St Mirren, the match resulted in a 2-2 draw where a late goal from Joe Shaughnessy gave the Buddies a share of the spoils.

Team News

St Mirren will be without Eamonn Brophy at the weekend after he suffered a hamstring injury during the recent defeat to Aberdeen which is set to keep him out until 2022.

Connor McCarthy is another player that will be unavailable for the Buddies as he is out of action with an ankle injury that is also going to keep him on the sidelines until the new year.

Kyle Magennis is still not an option for Hibernian with his groin issue being one that has been bothering him since September.

The Hibees will also be without both Paul McGinn and Paul Hanlon after they ended up being sent off during the recent 1-0 loss against Livingston, which will force major changes at the back.

St Mirren possible starting lineup:
Alnwick; Shaughnessy, Dunne, Fraser; Tanser, Flynn, Power, Millar; Ronan, McGrath; Main

Hibernian possible starting lineup:
Macey; Doig, Porteous, McGregor, Stevenson; Murphy, Newell, Doyle-Hayes, Boyle; Campbell; Nisbet

We say: St Mirren 2-1 Hibernian

While St Mirren have struggled for goals and victories as of late, this could provide the perfect opportunity for them to get back to winning ways.

With Hibernian also struggling and now being without a manager, this would be an ideal moment for the Buddies to pull themselves away from the relegation zone.
