Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva has claimed that Brazil have some excellent defensive prospects coming through the ranks.

Silva, who skippered Brazil at the 2014 World Cup, is regarded as one of the best centre-backs in world football, but the South American country have somewhat struggled defensively in recent tournaments.

The 30-year-old, however, has picked out three players that he believes will play a strong part in the future.

"Brazil has uncovered some very good young defenders," Silva told Foot Mercato. "There are two or three names that come to mind. Samir at Flamengo reads the game very well. He's left-footed and it's not easy to be a left-footed defender.

"Then there is Marlon at Fluminese. He's a very good defender who is coming to prominence in Brazil. And finally there's Elivelton, who also plays for Fluminense. He's another youngster who has similar characteristics to Marlon. As he's young, he can still improve his technique. I am sure that those three will join a European club soon."

Silva was replaced as Brazil captain by Neymar following the completion of last summer's World Cup.
