Result: Jim Herman earns place at The Masters with victory in Shell Houston Open

Jim Herman wins the Shell Houston Open by one shot and books his place at The Masters for the first time in his career.

Jim Herman has earned a place in The Masters for the first time in his career after winning the Shell Houston Open by one shot on Sunday.

The 38-year-old, whose last professional win was six years ago at the Moonah Classic in Australia, claimed a crucial birdie on the 16th hole before shooting pars on the last two holes.

Herman finished with a four-under-par 68 in the final round, bringing his overall total to 15-under, one shot above Henrik Stenson, who missed an 18-foot birdie putt on the 18th.

Dustin Johnson finished third after bouncing back from a double bogey on the 11th hole, while world number two Jordan Spieth, who will defend his Masters crown at Augusta later this week, ended tied-13th in the field.

The 22-year-old dropped shots on the 11th and 12th holes and picked up a double bogey on the final hole.
