Portugal defender Jose Fonte admits that he finds it hard to believe he has reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016 having been playing League One football five years ago.

Portugal defender Jose Fonte has admitted that he is struggling to come to terms with the prospect of appearing in the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

The 32-year-old only made his international debut two years ago having helped Southampton climb from League One up to the Premier League.

Portugal will take on surprise package Wales in the last four later this evening, with Fonte expected to start in Lyon.

"I've been down in League One and to be playing a semi-final means the world to me. It's hard to understand everything that's happening. It's unbelievable," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Portugal are appearing in their seventh semi-final at a major international tournament, but they have won just one of the previous six.
