Lewis Hamilton has paid tribute to the "outstanding" performance of his Mercedes team after he secured a fourth British Grand Prix victory.

The three-time world champion is now only one point behind teammate Nico Rosberg in the drivers' standings after winning at Silverstone.

Speaking after the race, Hamilton also hailed the support of the British crowd, which he claimed is better than anywhere else in the world.

He told reporters: "Our performance this weekend has been outstanding. The engineers and mechanics did a great job, so big thanks to all of them once again. And then the crowd... I mean, where do they all come from?

"It's absolutely amazing! Nothing we see in any other country even comes close - and that for me just shows the passion us Brits have for sport, regardless of the weather.

"This is beyond my wildest dreams, honestly. When I was younger I didn't see the other stuff that comes with being a Formula 1 driver."

Rosberg was demoted to third place at the end of the race after Mercedes were penalised for breaching rules on the use of team radio.
