Tottenham Hotspur are working to sign Leicester City attacker James Maddison in a £60m deal, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in pole position to sign Leicester City attacker James Maddison during this summer's transfer window in a deal that could be worth £60m.

The 26-year-old is expected to leave the King Power Stadium in the upcoming market if he manages to help his team avoid relegation to the Championship for the 2023-24 campaign.

Maddison has again had a productive season, scoring nine goals and registering eight assists in 26 Premier League outings, but the Foxes are currently down in 16th spot in the table, level on points with 18th-placed Nottingham Forest heading into the final straight.

The attacker only has a contract with Dean Smith's side until next summer, and a recent report claimed that Leicester are prepared to sell him to the highest bidder in the upcoming market.

Manchester United and Newcastle United are among the clubs to be credited with an interest in the England international, who arrived at Leicester from Norwich City in 2018.

However, according to Football Insider, Tottenham are currently pushing to secure his signature, with the North London club confident that £60m would be enough to convince Leicester to sell.

The report claims that Spurs want Maddison as part of a 'huge overhaul of the club', with the capital outfit currently searching for a permanent replacement for former head coach Antonio Conte.

Tottenham are facing an uphill task to qualify for next season's Champions League, though, with the team currently sitting sixth in the table, nine points behind fourth-placed Man United, who have two games in hand.

Spurs are also facing a huge battle to keep hold of Harry Kane this summer, with Man United believed to have identified the England captain as their number one target for the upcoming market.

Kane has again been Tottenham's main source of goals this season, scoring 27 times in all competitions, while Son Heung-min has 14; the next two on the list are Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who have managed 11 goals between them during the 2022-23 campaign.

Maddison is allegedly viewed as a player capable of chipping in with double figures in terms of goals and assists on a season-to-season basis, with the playmaker proving himself at Leicester over the last five years.

The Englishman has contributed 54 goals and 40 assists in 199 appearances for the Foxes, including six goals and four assists in 20 games in the Europa League and Europa Conference League.

Maddison has provided assists in Leicester's last two league matches, which have proved to be draws against fellow strugglers Leeds United and Everton.

The Foxes will continue their battle for survival against Fulham on Monday, while Tottenham will return to action at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
