England defender Chris Smalling insists that there is "no injury scare" despite returning from training with his knee wrapped in ice.

England defender Chris Smalling has insisted that there are no concerns over his fitness ahead of Euro 2016.

The Manchester United man, who is one of only three specialist centre-backs in Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad, returned from training yesterday with a bandage and ice wrapped around his left knee.

However, reports emerged shortly afterwards that the injury was not serious enough to keep Smalling out of training, and the player himself has confirmed that he is fully fit.

"There's no injury scare there, it's normal," he told reporters.

"I often ice different parts of my body or jump in an ice bath. It's just normal recovery process to be ready for the next day, no worries there."

Smalling is expected to start for England in their Euro 2016 opener against Russia on June 11.
