England captain Wayne Rooney says that he does not need to defend himself against his critics ahead of tomorrow's Euro 2016 opener against Russia.

England captain Wayne Rooney has responded to his critics by claiming that he only cares about the opinions of his coaches and teammates.

There has been plenty of debate regarding Rooney's position in the national side following an indifferent season for Manchester United.

On numerous occasions during the recent campaign, Rooney has dropped from his forward role into midfield, and could do the same for England at Euro 2016.

While facing the media, the 30-year-old was asked for a reaction to comments made from the Russian camp that he is no longer the same player.

Rooney replied: "I know the qualities I have and I don't have to sit here and defend myself. I have played this game for many years. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. The only opinion that matters to me is that of the coaches."

Rooney is expected to start for the Three Lions in tomorrow's opening Euro 2016 game against Russia.
