Enzo Maccarinelli ends career after stoppage defeat

Former world cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli retires from boxing after suffering a first-round stoppage defeat to Dmytro Kuchar.

Welsh boxer Enzo Maccarinelli has ended his professional career after he suffered a first-round stoppage defeat to Dmytro Kuchar on Friday night.

Maccarinelli had been hoping to become European champion for the second time after stepping in for Ovill McKenzie, but the 35-year-old was caught with a left hook towards the end of the first session and the bout was brought to an halt.

Maccarinelli finishes his time in the ring with a record of 41 victories from 48 outings, with the highlight of his career being his WBO cruiserweight title reign between 2006 and 2008.

He made four successful defences of his belt before he lost a unification showdown with David Haye.
