Bayern Munich are allegedly contemplating making an approach for Chelsea forward Kai Havertz during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Bayern Munich.

The Germany international is currently in his third season at Stamford Bridge since making the £72m move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020.

During that time, Havertz has contributed 29 goals and 15 assists from his 118 appearances in all competitions, his most famous strike being the decisive effort in the 2021 Champions League final versus Manchester City.

However, the 23-year-old has failed to live up to his price tag, his inconsistency in the final third proving detrimental to Chelsea's efforts to become Premier League title challengers.

Havertz is currently the club's top goalscorer in the top flight with five strikes, three short of the eight that he netted during the 2021-22 campaign.

Nevertheless, despite having faith placed in him by head coach Graham Potter, Havertz's position in the Blues attack is far from a guarantee in the long term.

According to MediaFoot, Bayern are giving consideration to making an approach for the versatile attacker during the summer transfer window.

The report claims that work is being undertaken behind the scenes ahead of potentially presenting a formal proposal to the Blues hierarchy.

Chelsea are currently in a period of transition with the club's new owners bankrolling one of the most audacious spending sprees in the sport's history.

The West Londoners have already shelled out in excess of £400m since their takeover at the end of May, and reports indicate that a further financial outlay is expected before the end of the month.

Chelsea have recently been linked with PSV Eindhoven's Noni Madueke and Borussia Monchengladbach's Marcus Thuram, two players who would expect regular action in the final third.

RB Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku is also said to have agreed to join Chelsea next season, making it inevitable that departures will take place to reduce the numbers of the senior squad.

Havertz still has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, and there is currently no talk of an extension as Chelsea focus on incomings.

From Bayern's perspective, they still require a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, although it is unclear whether Havertz would be considered for the first-choice central-attacking role at the Allianz Arena.
