India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant is in hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition, after being involved in a car crash close to his hometown.

India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant is said to be stable in hospital after being involved in a car cash close to his hometown.

The incident occurred between Mangalaur and Nursan, with local police saying that the 25-year-old lost control of his car after he had "dozed off".

Pant's car caught fire after flipping over twice, and initial reports in India said that injuries have been sustained to his head, back and leg.

The BCCI has since released a statement to confirm Pant's injuries, revealing that he suffered a ligament tear to his knee.

It read: "India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant met with a car accident early on Friday morning near Roorkee, Uttarakhand. He was admitted to Saksham Hospital Multispecialty and Trauma Centre where he was treated for impact injuries.

"Rishabh has two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back.

"Rishabh's condition remains stable, and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo MRI scans to ascertain the extent of his injuries and formulate his further course of treatment.

"The BCCI is in constant touch with Rishabh's family while the Medical Team is in close contact with the doctors currently treating Rishabh. The Board will see to it that Rishabh receives the best possible medical care and gets all the support he needs to come out of this traumatic phase."

Pant has been a regular for India in all formats of the game, playing 33 Tests, 30 one-day internationals and 66 T20 fixtures.

Most recently, he featured in two Test matches against Bangladesh, hitting 93 in the first innings of the second Test to help India to a three-wicket win.
