Preview: West Bromwich Albion vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between West Bromwich Albion and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

West Bromwich Albion will be looking to record back-to-back home victories when they host struggling Huddersfield Town in the Championship on Saturday at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies are looking to mount a promotion push this term despite off-field issues, while Huddersfield are aiming to avoid relegation to League One.

West Brom continued their perfect home record at the start of this new second-tier campaign with a 4-2 success over Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough at The Hawthorns.

Goals from Cedric Kipre, John Swift and Brandon Thomas-Asante had the Baggies 3-1 up after 50 minutes, and new arrival Jeremy Sarmiento added his first for the club in the 91st minute.

Having earned maximum points against Swansea City and Boro at home so far, Carlos Corberan will be hoping his side can continue to make their Black Country base a fortress this season.

West Brom are currently seventh in the second-tier standings after collecting seven points from their opening quartet of fixtures, and supporters will be hoping their men can earn one more maximum before the international break.

Huddersfield have endured a very challenging start to their 2023-24 term, failing to win any of their first five matches across the Championship and EFL Cup.

Last time out saw the Terries outclassed by the Canaries of Norwich City, with David Wagner's men winning 4-0 at the John Smith's Stadium in Yorkshire.

Josh Sargent, Ashley Barnes, Jon Rowe and Adam Idah all got on the scoresheet against Neil Warnock's side, and the veteran manager will be wondering how he can get a response out of his side at The Hawthorns this weekend.

Town's only point of the second-tier season to date did arrive on their travels, with the Terriers forcing a share of the spoils with Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on August 19.

Team News

West Brom remain light on options in attacking areas, with American striker Daryl Dike sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury as he targets a mid-December return date.

Josh Maja is yet to earn a place in the starting XI for Albion, as Thomas-Asante continues to impress Corberan with his running power and pressing at the top of the pitch.

Kipre's performances in possession have been criticised over the opening weeks of the campaign, but a goal last time out should see the Frenchman keep his place ahead of the likes of Kyle Bartley and Caleb Taylor.

Huddersfield have a pair of injury doubts ahead of Saturday's trip to The Hawthorns, with David Kasumu and Tom Lees suffering from ankle and back injuries respectively.

Oliver Turton is still a while away from action after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in February, with the 30-year-old aiming to return in October.

West Bromwich Albion possible starting lineup:
Palmer; Ajayi, Kipre, Pieters; Furlong, Molumby, Yokuslu, Phillips; Wallace, Swift, Thomas-Asante

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Nicholls; Edwards, Pearson, Helik, Ruffels; Rudoni, Hogg, Thomas, Diarra, Koroma; Ward

We say: West Bromwich Albion 2-0 Huddersfield Town

Despite the uncertainty swirling around West Brom off the field, on the pitch you can rely on the Baggies to be pretty formidable at their Black Country home.

Huddersfield have struggled massively at the start of this term, and we are expecting them to lose for the fourth time this season on Saturday afternoon.
