Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kieran Trippier admits that his side were nowhere near their best during their 2-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road.

Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kieran Trippier has acknowledged that his side are capable of playing "so much better" than they showed in their 2-1 defeat at Watford this afternoon.

Spurs took the lead through an Abdoulaye Doucoure own goal at Vicarage Road, but Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart turned the game around for the home side as Tottenham's 100% start to the season came to an end.

Mauricio Pochettino's side went into the match off the back of a 3-0 win away to Manchester United on Monday, but Trippier admitted that they were far from their best against the Hornets.

"Disappointing, we know we can play better. We knew they were a threat from set pieces and they scored twice. The boys are disappointed. We didn't pass quickly enough, we were slow with the ball and not clinical today," the England international told Sky Sports News.

"We know Watford are a tough team to play, Deeney and [Andre] Gray love to battle. We took the lead but Watford had a lot of momentum in the second half. We can play so much better.

"We tried but we can do better with the passing, the movement. But give credit to Watford."

Spurs will return to action against another unbeaten side in the form of Liverpool after the international break.
