Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino admits that his side will not challenge for the Premier League title this season if they fail to learn from their Watford defeat.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that his side will not challenge for the Premier League title if they continue to play like they did during this afternoon's defeat to Watford.

Spurs saw their 100% record ended at Vicarage Road as Watford came from behind to keep their own perfect start alive, with goals from Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart cancelling out an Abdoulaye Doucoure own goal.

Pochettino acknowledged that his side made too many mistakes en route to the defeat, but has urged his players to learn from it if they are to mount a title challenge.

"We were so relaxed in the first half and we made a lot of mistakes. I'm disappointed because we need to do more and play much much better," Pochettino told Sky Sports News.

"If you want to be a contender you cannot concede the type of goals we conceded. The reality is so clear. When you lose you must learn and improve."

Tottenham are next in action at home to Liverpool on September 15.
