The Fennec Foxes were first to threaten as Yacine Brahimi sent a cross into the Elephants' box, with a mix-up between Sylvain Gbohouo and Siaka Tiene allowing Hilel Soudani to get a shot away, but the goalkeeper was able to make the save.

Herve Renard's charges, however, went on to take the lead just before the half-hour mark, Wilfried Bony finding himself on the end of a Max Gradel cross, which he duly nodded into the bottom corner.

Algeria got themselves back into the game six minutes after the restart, Soudani controlling the ball just outside the box before rounding the keeper and firing home.

However, Ivory Coast were back in front midway through the second half, as a Yaya Toure free kick landed perfectly to Bony, who smashed a powerful header into the top-right corner.

Algeria laid siege to the Elephants' goal in the latter stages of the game to try to find another equaliser, which left them exposed at the back.

This allowed Tallo to storm down the flank before squaring the ball to Gervinho, who killed off the game for good by poking home and sealing his side's progress in the competition.

Ivory Coast will face Congo DR in the semi-finals next week.
