Burnley are reportedly set to pay Genk €16m (£13.9m) for Mike Tresor after the Clarets activated the winger's buy clause following his fifth Premier League appearance.

Burnley have reportedly activated the buy clause in Mike Tresor's loan deal, making the switch from Genk to Turf Moor a permanent move in the summer.

The 24-year-old joined the Clarets on temporary terms from the Belgian Pro League side in June following a productive campaign in terms of goal contributions.

Tresor managed to provide 24 assists in 39 matches for Genk as they battled at the top end of the division, and the winger also made the net ripple on eight occasions.

After graduating through the Anderlecht academy, the two-time Belgium international had successful spells at NEC and Willem II in the Eredivisie.

According to DeMorgen, Tresor's move to top-flight newcomers Burnley has been made permanent after a specific condition was met in the loan deal.

The report claims that the transfer of the winger to Turf Moor contained a clause stating that the Clarets would complete the full purchase of the player should he feature in five Premier League matches.

After coming off the bench for the final nine minutes for Vincent Kompany's side in their 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, Tresor hit the threshold of appearances required.

Out of his five top-flight appearances, the former Genk man has only managed two starts, with the attacker featuring heavily in home losses against Manchester City and Chelsea before October's international break.

It is understood that Burnley will now pay the Belgian club €16m (£13.9m) for Tresor, who has failed to make the desired impact in terms of goal contributions since joining in the summer.

The Lancashire club will fork out for the winger at the conclusion of the 2023-24 term, helping the Clarets spread their spending after a busy window following their promotion from the Championship.

After moving away from the majority of the players who earned the club a place in the Premier League in the early stages of the season, Kompany's mentality is beginning to shift, with only only four of the 11 starters on the weekend being summer recruits.

The Clarets are currently 19th in the top-flight standings after collecting just four points from their opening 10 matches, meaning that they are two points behind the Cherries in 17th.

A tricky fixture run on their return to the Premier League has not helped ease Kompany's side back into life at the top table of English football, however upcoming matches present an opportunity for improved form.

Following home clashes with Manchester City, Aston Villa, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, Burnley will welcome Crystal Palace to Turf Moor on Saturday looking to record their second win of the term.
