Xherdan Shaqiri has backed Switzerland teammate Granit Xhaka to bounce back from his penalty heartache at Euro 2016 prior to joining up with Arsenal.
The midfielder, who will officially join the Gunners after the tournament in a £30m deal, was the only player to miss from the spot as Poland edged through after extra time.
Despite the pain of putting his attempt well wide of the target, Shaqiri believes that Xhaka has the character to quickly recover before making his switch to the Premier League in the coming weeks.
"He's disappointed, but that's football and mistakes can happen," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "I think Granit is very professional and he can cope with it. He will stand up again."
Switzerland boss Vladimir Petkovic added: "I'm very sad for him, but it's not just about him. It's disappointing as the Swiss players gave everything. We weren't clinical enough and as a result of the lottery of the penalty shootout, if you miss one, it can be crucial."
Poland had taken the lead in Saint-Etienne through a well-taken Jakub Blaszczykowski strike, before Shaqiri's scissor-kick attempt rescued his side a draw late on to pave the way for extra time and pens.
