Result: England break records in emphatic win over Sri Lanka

Jason Roy and Alex Hales put on an unbeaten opening stand of 255 to guide England to a 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka.

England have produced one of the best performances in their history as they thrashed Sri Lanka by 10 wickets at Edgbaston.

After restricting their opponents to 254-7, Alex Hales and Jason Roy stole the show as they stormed to victory with 95 balls to spare.

Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid both took two wickets apiece as England performed well with the ball, but the opening batsmen deserve to take the plaudits after hitting 17 fours and 10 sixes during a devastating display.

Roy's score of 112 came off 95 deliveries while Hales scored at a slightly higher rate, ending the match with 133 off 110 balls.

Their stand was the highest ever recorded by two English batsmen in a one-day international, while it was also the fifth-highest opening partnership in ODI history.

England take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series after the first contest on Tuesday ended in a draw.
