Manchester City risk losing Kelechi Iheanacho at the start of next season should he agree to represent Nigeria in August's Olympic football competition.

Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been named in Nigeria's provisional squad for the Olympic Games later this year.

The 19-year-old joins Chelsea's John Obi Mikel, Alex Iwobi of Arsenal and Watford ace Odion Ighalo in the Super Eagles' side, despite opposition from the Citizens.

City are said to be reluctant to release Iheanacho for the tournament, which gets underway on August 3 and lasts for a little over two weeks, as they hope to use him from the off next season.

Should Nigeria reach the latter stages in Brazil, the youngster would miss a large part of City's pre-season preparations and also the start of the Premier League campaign.

It is not yet known whether Iheanacho, who impressed last season with 14 goals, will himself agree to take part in the competition.

Alex Iwobi of Arsenal looks on during the Emirates Cup match between Arsenal and Olympique Lyonnais at the Emirates Stadium on July 25, 2015 in London, England.
