Former Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp backs Rangers' pursuit of experienced centre-back Clint Hill, who is available on a free transfer.

Harry Redknapp has claimed that Rangers would be signing "a leader" if they managed to bring Clint Hill to the Scottish Premier League in this summer's transfer window.

Hill is currently available on a free transfer after leaving Queens Park Rangers and it is understood that Rangers are close to agreeing a 12-month contract with the experienced centre-back.

Redknapp managed Hill at QPR, and the experienced boss has lavished praise on the 37-year-old, who could also take on a coaching role with the Gers.

"He's in absolutely great shape," Redknapp told STV. "He trains well, looks after himself and he's a family man. I couldn't speak highly enough of him.

"[Rangers would be] getting a good player, a character, a leader who wants to win. He's fit as a fiddle and doesn't carry an ounce of excess weight on him. He's a good lad, a tough lad with a good left foot who loves a tackle. He's a very good player who would be an excellent signing on a free transfer."

Hill's former QPR teammate Joey Barton has already made the move to Ibrox this summer after leaving Burnley on a free transfer.
