Manchester United will discuss a new contract with goalkeeper David de Gea 'in the coming months', according to a report.

Manchester United will reportedly sit down with David de Gea 'in the coming months' to discuss a new contract.

The 31-year-old has only kept nine clean sheets in 40 appearances for the Red Devils this season but has been back to his best for the club for long stages of the campaign.

Dean Henderson had threatened to replace the Spaniard as Man United's number one, but the former is now firmly second choice and could be on his way out of the club this summer.

De Gea's current deal at Old Trafford is due to expire in June 2023, although there is an option for the club to extend the agreement for a further 12 months.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Man United will hold contract discussions with the former Atletico Madrid youngster 'in the next months' in the hope of reaching an agreement over an extension.

De Gea has played in all 32 of his team's Premier League matches during the current season, while he has now represented the club on 481 occasions in all competitions since arriving in the summer of 2011.

The Spain international, who is believed to be the highest-paid goalkeeper in the Premier League, has won the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Europa League during his time at Old Trafford.
