Manchester City reportedly identify Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips as a potential replacement for Fernandinho this summer.

Manchester City have reportedly identified Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips as a potential replacement for Fernandinho.

The Citizens are believed to be on the lookout for midfield reinforcements this summer, as their 37-year-old captain is set to leave the Etihad Stadium when his contract expires next month.

According to the Daily Mirror, City boss Pep Guardiola believes that 25-year-old Phillips would be the 'ideal' replacement for the Brazilian this summer.

The report adds that the Premier League leaders have sent scouts to watch Phillips on several occasions throughout this season, and they view the England international as a cheaper alternative to primary midfield target Declan Rice.

Phillips, who is under contract at Elland Road until June 2024, is believed to be ready to leave his boyhood club this summer, even if they avoid relegation from the top flight.

Man City could face stern competition from Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and West Ham United, who have all be credited with an interest in the midfielder.
