Michael Carrick has signed a new contract with Manchester United, according to club legend Paddy Crerand.

Former Manchester United defender Paddy Crerand appeared to confirm that Michael Carrick has signed a new contract with the club earlier today.

Speaking on his show, which is screened on the club's own channel MUTV, the Scot seemed to leak the news live on air.

"What happened today, that nobody has mentioned and I'm delighted about, is that Carrick has signed another contract," he told host Mark Sullivan.

"He's signed a contract for another year hasn't he?"

Carrick, 34, is due to become a free agent next month, but he did recently admit that he was "hopeful" of extending his time at Old Trafford into an 11th year.
