Dani Alves says that his departure from Barcelona after eight years at Camp Nou is motivated by a desire for a new challenge.

Dani Alves has explained his reasons for leaving Barcelona, saying that "things were becoming too easy" at Camp Nou and he needs a new challenge.

The 33-year-old has chosen not to renew his contract with the Blaugrana after an eight-year spell at the Catalan club, where he has won 23 trophies.

He is quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport as saying: "In life, we should explore options outside our comfort zone. Barcelona is an amazing club, but things were becoming too easy.

"I always have the desire for a new challenge. I hope that I can bring success like I did at Barcelona to another European club."

Alves, currently playing for Brazil in the Copa America, is rumoured to be on the verge of signing for Serie A champions Juventus.
