Brendan Rodgers: "We'll get better"

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that his side will "get better" following their defeat to Manchester City.

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that his Liverpool side will improve following their 3-1 defeat away at champions Manchester City this evening.

The visitors dominated the possession throughout the first half, but they failed to turn that pressure into chances and they were eventually beaten by a brace of goals from Stevan Jovetic and a strike from substitute Sergio Aguero.

Speaking after the match, Rodgers admitted that his team didn't move the ball quickly enough at the Etihad Stadium, but he has backed them to "get better".

"Up until 40 minutes we were the best team, but we switched off. The message at half time was that we were playing well and looked the most threatening team," he told Sky Sports News.

"At 2-0, it was then difficult, but credit to the players because they kept going. We had a good reaction, it went to 3-1 and we still created chances. The players kept going and we've still got a long, long way to go.

"We needed to be a wee bit quicker in our actions in the final third and a bit more dynamic. We looked a threat, which is important. We'll get better as it goes on, but it just wasn't our night."

Next up for the Merseysiders is a trip to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur.
