Hull City are reportedly closing in on a deal to make Mike Phelan their manager on a permanent basis.

Hull City are reportedly close to a deal to make caretaker boss Mike Phelan their permanent manager.

The 54-year-old took over at the KCOM Stadium after Steve Bruce quit his post just before the new season began and has guided the Tigers to two wins and a draw from their opening seven games.

The four defeats have come against top-end opposition in the form of Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, however, and many Hull fans have called for Phelan to get the job on a permanent basis.

According to Sky Sports News, Hull are now said to be nearing an agreement to give Phelan the job, with an announcement expected at some point this week.

Meanwhile, current Hull owners the Allams are expected to conclude a deal to sell the club within the next few weeks, with an unnamed Chinese consortium rumoured to be in the frame to take over.
