Four golfers have taken a share of the lead after the first round of the British Masters at The Grove.

Mikko Ilonen, Marc Warren, Tommy Fleetwood and Richard Sterne all ended day one shooting five-under-par 66s.

Ilonen and Warren had plenty of joy on the second hole as they hit eagles, while Fleetwood and Sterne both birdied five holes on their way around the course.

Lee Westwood was in fine form on the back nine as he carded three consecutive birdies, but a bogey on the 16th kept him one stroke behind the leaders.

Andrew Johnson moved into the top five of the field with a birdie on the final hole, while his fellow Englishmen David Horsey, Richard Bland, James Morrison and Lee Slattery also carded 67 rounds.

It was a disappointing day for former world number one and tournament host Luke Donald, who finished six-over-par following five bogeys, a double bogey and a solitary birdie.
