Manchester City are reportedly exploring a summer move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

Manchester City are reportedly exploring a summer move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

The 26-year-old was one of the Magpies' first signings by the club's Saudi-backed owners in January 2022, joining from Lyon for a reported £40m, and he has since become a fans' favourites a St James' Park.

Guimaraes is a mainstay in Eddie Howe's side and has made a total of 95 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and registering 12 assists as a deep-lying midfielder.

The Brazil international still has over four years remaining on his Magpies contract, and he recently insisted that he is "very happy" at the club.

However, Guimaraes continues to be linked with a possible big-money exit this summer due to Newcastle's financial situation.

The Magpies announced pre-tax losses of £73m for the financial year earlier this season, and CEO Darren Eales has since admitted that the club may be required to sell some of their star players if they wish to reinvest in their squad and avoid breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Guimaraes has allegedly attracted interest from a number of top European clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Chelsea.

According to FootballTransfers, treble winners Man City are the latest club to be exploring the possibility of recruiting Guimaraes this summer.

The report adds that the Citizens have a 'huge interest' in the Brazilian as they look to strengthen their midfield options ahead of next season.

It is understood that any interested suitors in Guimaraes must meet the midfielder's £100m release clause in his Newcastle contract.

Man City could look to step up their pursuit of Guimaraes if they decide to permanently part ways with Kalvin Phillips, who is currently on loan at West Ham United after being deemed surplus to requirements under Pep Guardiola.

The Citizens have also been heavily linked with Hammers midfielder Lucas Paqueta, as well as Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich, who has recently insisted that he is "relaxed" over his future in Bavaria even though he has less than 18 months remaining on his contract.
