Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer sets a new club record in Sunday's 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer set a new club record in Sunday's 4-2 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The England international has established himself as a key part of the Chelsea side following his arrival from Manchester City in the summer.

Palmer has started 15 of his 19 Premier League appearances for the Blues, including Sunday's clash with Wolves at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old got Mauricio Pochettino's side off to the perfect start, finding the net in the 19th minute to score in a third consecutive home game across all competitions.

Palmer latched onto Moises Caicedo's inch-perfect pass to slide the ball into the bottom corner with his weaker right foot.

Not only did Palmer put his side into the lead, but he also broke a club record with his 10th goal of league goal of the 2023-24 season.

The youngster became the first Chelsea player aged 21 or under to reach double figures for goals in a single Premier League campaign.

Unfortunately for Palmer, his early strike mattered for very little, as Wolves fought back to claim all three points in West London.

Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha cancelled out Palmer's striker in the 22nd minute, before an Axel Disasi own goal left Chelsea trailing at the break.

Cunha went on to score two more goals in the second period to wrap up his first hat-trick for Wolves, and while Thiago Silva pulled a goal back in the closing stages, it proved to be too little too late.

After losing 4-1 to Liverpool prior to Sunday's defeat, Chelsea have now conceded four or more goals in consecutive league games for the second time under Pochettino.

They previously conceded four goals in back-to-back games in November when a 4-4 draw against Manchester City was followed by a 4-1 loss to Newcastle United.

Chelsea are now sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table after being replaced in 10th position by Wolves.
