Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo says that summer signing Phil Ofosu-Ayeh is not close to making a return from injury.

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted that the club need to find a solution with Phil Ofosu-Ayeh.

The defender was one of Nuno's summer signings, but the 26-year-old has failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Championship leaders due to an ankle injury.

Nuno has suggested that the right-back is not close to making his debut for the club, and the Portuguese has hinted that he is frustrated with the situation as he looks for backup for Matt Doherty.

The 43-year-old is quoted by the Express & Star as saying: "The programme that is being done with him is trying to increase his load of running, but he still has pain.

"We have to be very cautious, not only because of this particular injury, but the way that Phil – for the last year – has struggled.

"He needs to settle down and solve, definitely, the problems that he has. Then we have to make a decision."

Wolves currently top the league standings by a point, with nearest rivals Cardiff City fighting back to defeat Norwich City on Friday night.
