A report claims that Stoke City defender Philipp Wollscheid is a summer transfer target for German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.

Stoke City defender Philipp Wollscheid is a summer transfer target for Borussia Monchengladbach, according to a report.

The centre-back joined Stoke from Mainz 05 last January, initially on loan, before making the move permanent last summer.

The German international has been a constant in Mark Hughes's selection this season and according to The Sun, his performances have attracted the attention of Gladbach in his homeland.

The same report claims that Gladbach, who are chasing a top-four spot in the Bundesliga, are confident of enticing the 27-year-old to Borussia-Park.

Wollscheid has made 36 appearances for Stoke in all competitions this season.
