French champions Paris Saint-Germain announce the appointment of former Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert as their new director of football.

Paris Saint-Germain have appointed former Netherlands international Patrick Kluivert as their director of football.

The 40-year-old leaves the Ajax Under-19 position he had taken just this summer to work with new head coach Unai Emery at the Ligue 1 champions.

PSG have said on their official website that Kluivert will "play an active role in the national and international development of the club" and "defining the club's long-term sporting strategy".

The former Ajax, Barcelona and Newcastle United striker said in a statement: "I am extremely honoured to join such a great club as Paris Saint-Germain and to take on the role of director of football.

"I will conduct my mission with great ambition and rigour. We are all in Paris to reach the very high objectives set by the club and meet the expectations of the players and supporters alike."

Kluivert scored 40 goals in 79 appearances for his country.
