Tony Pulis has reportedly makes enquiries over the availability of Southampton's Jay Rodriguez, who he believes is the ideal man to strengthen West Brom's attacking ranks.

West Bromwich Albion have made an approach to Southampton over the signing of striker Jay Rodriguez, according to a report.

The Baggies are keen to strengthen their attacking ranks before the transfer window closes, even if Saido Berahino remains at The Hawthorns.

It is claimed by The Telegraph that Rodriguez, who has only featured sparingly for the Saints since picking up a long-term injury in April 2014, is the man boss Tony Pulis wants.

Pulis is said to have proposed an initial loan deal, with an eye to making that permanent should all parties be happy come the end of the season.

Rodriguez started just three Premier League matches for Southampton last season, having so far struggled to replicate his 15-goal showing in 2013-14 when injury denied him a place in England's World Cup squad.
