Liverpool are reportedly set for a much-needed financial boost if Manchester City end up signing former Reds striker Danny Ings from Southampton this summer.

Liverpool can reportedly expect to pocket a much-needed injection of cash if Manchester City's pursuit of Danny Ings ends up proving successful this summer.

The Premier League champions-elect have reportedly set their sights on a deal for the Southampton man as they contemplate alternatives to the £100m-rated Erling Braut Haaland.

While Ings would certainly not command a nine-figure sum like his Borussia Dortmund counterpart, Man City would be expected to fork out a hefty amount to secure his signature, and Liverpool could directly benefit from such a deal if it goes through.

The Mirror claims that the Reds inserted a 20% sell-on clause in Ings's deal when they allowed him to depart for Southampton, so they will be in line for a financial boost if their former player does end up becoming Sergio Aguero's successor at the Etihad.

Haaland is understood to be City's top target for the summer transfer window, but Pep Guardiola's side would have to fend off interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United to secure his services.

Ings's existing contract at St Mary's is due to expire at the end of next season, and talks over an extension are yet to lead to a positive solution.
