Manchester United reportedly prepare to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after holding emergency talks following Saturday's 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Watford.

Manchester United are reportedly set to sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following emergency talks.

The Norwegian witnessed his side go down 4-1 in a humiliating display at Watford - the latest in a long line of underwhelming Red Devils results.

United's defeat to Watford was their fifth loss from their last seven Premier League games, with goalkeeper David de Gea labelling Saturday's performance "embarrassing".

Man United players allegedly expect Solskjaer to go following that defeat, and the powers-that-be are understood to have held talks over the 47-year-old's future immediately after the Vicarage Road drubbing.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Solskjaer will now be relieved of his duties as Man United manager, with Darren Fletcher set to take interim charge of the first team until a successor is appointed.

Former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane is thought to be the frontrunner to take the reins at Old Trafford, and the report adds that compensation for Solskjaer is now being discussed.

The former striker is therefore set to leave the Red Devils with 78 wins from 149 games in the dugout since taking charge permanently in March 2019.
