Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Manchester United

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's trip to face bitter rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round.

A misfiring Liverpool side will turn their attention to FA Cup matters on Sunday when they take on bitter rivals Manchester United for the second time in the space of a week.

A 1-0 defeat at the hands of Burnley on Thursday night ended Liverpool's 68-game home unbeaten run in the league and made it now five league games without a win and four league games without a goal.

Indeed, their only goal or win so far in 2021 came in the previous round of the FA Cup as they survived a scare against Aston Villa's youngsters to progress, and they will now be looking to return to form in timely fashion seven days on from their goalless Premier League draw with Man United.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their trip to Old Trafford.

Jordan Henderson

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: January 24 (vs. Man United)

Liverpool suffered another injury blow in the buildup to the Burnley game, with captain Jordan Henderson picking up a muscle strain. Jurgen Klopp has insisted that it is nothing serious, but the quick turnaround in fixtures makes him a major doubt for this trip to Old Trafford.

Naby Keita

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Naby Keita has been sidelined for almost a month now and, while Klopp has insisted that it is "not a big injury" the midfielder will again be absent for this game.

Diogo Jota

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: February 6 (vs. Leicester City)

Diogo Jota is now expected to be out for even longer than first feared after suffering a knee injury in Liverpool's dead-rubber final Champions League group game. Klopp confirmed earlier this week that the forward is "still a few weeks away" from returning.

Joe Gomez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Joe Gomez remains a long-term absentee with the knee injury he sustained on international duty with England last year, and the centre-back faces a race against time to return before the end of this season.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Virgil van Dijk is making "really promising" progress in his recovery from the ACL injury he sustained in the Merseyside derby last year, but the road back to first-team football remains a long one for the commanding centre-back.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this FA Cup fourth-round tie.
