Championship side Leeds United have confirmed the appointment of Garry Monk as their new head coach.

The former Swansea boss has signed a one-year rolling contract at Elland Road after Steve Evans's departure on Tuesday.

"I want to be challenged and really get my teeth into a big project," Monk told a press conference on Thursday. "This is definitely the right challenge for me and I'm really happy to be here.

"I am extremely honoured to join Leeds United – we all know the history of the club and the standing it has in English football."

Monk, sacked by the Swans in December 2015, is the sixth full-time head coach appointed by Leeds owner Massimo Cellino since June 2014.
