How Portugal could line up against France

Sports Mole looks at how Portugal could line up in Sunday's UEFA Nations League clash with France.

Portugal will be eyeing their third straight victory in the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League when they travel to world champions France for a mouthwatering contest on Sunday night.

Fernando Santos's side are currently top of League A Group 3 on goal difference, picking up six points from their two games in the section against Croatia and Sweden.

The Nations League holders were also in action in an international friendly on Wednesday night, playing out a goalless draw with Spain in Lisbon.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Portugal could line up against Didier Deschamps's team.

POSS POR XI vs. FRA

Santos is expected to recall the likes of Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix and Bruno Fernandes to his starting XI following the 0-0 draw with Spain last time out.

A 4-3-3 formation is expected to see Felix and Bernardo Silva join Cristiano Ronaldo in attack, while Manchester United's Fernandes is likely to feature alongside Danilo Pereira and William Carvalho in midfield.

Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves are also options in the middle of the park, but it seems likely that Santos will select two defensive midfielders to allow Fernandes to break forward.

The back four is also not expected to include any surprises, with new Manchester City centre-back Dias likely to be joined by the experienced Pepe, while Joao Cancelo should edge out Nelson Semedo at right-back, with Raphael Guerreiro lining up in the opposite side.

Diogo Jota is also pushing for a spot in the starting XI, although the new Liverpool attacker is expected to feature on the bench alongside the likes of Andre Silva and Francisco Trincao.
